Teaching photography and business through lived experience, not theory.

Newborn fundamentals

What you'll learn

This is fully customized to your needs, but may include:

You’ll learn **basic wrapping techniques using regular wraps**, without the use of swaddle products or similar tools (excluding potato sack style wraps), along with how to confidently work with simple, natural posing. This includes foundational poses such as head on hands, side-lying positions, bum-up poses, and posing in props like crates and beds. Please note: advanced poses such as froggy are not included in this mentoring.

We will also cover **baby safety and soothing techniques**, how to read baby’s cues, and how to ensure they are always safely and comfortably positioned throughout the session. You’ll gain insight into the **tools I personally use in every session**, along with how and why they support my workflow.

What you’ll walk away with

In addition, you will receive a **PDF of my vendor recommendations and must-have items for newborn sessions**, giving you a clear starting point for building your own setup. We will also work together to help you **create a simple, efficient workflow and choose props that fit your style and space**, so your sessions feel more organized and intentional from start to finish.

By the end of your mentoring session, you’ll feel more confident stepping into newborn sessions, more prepared for real-life situations, and more comfortable guiding both baby and parents through a calm, structured experience. You’ll leave with clarity, direction, and practical knowledge you can immediately apply to your next session.

This private, 1:1 newborn mentoring experience is designed to give you hands-on, personalized support as you build confidence in your newborn photography sessions. Whether you’re feeling unsure during shoots, struggling with flow, or simply want more clarity and structure, this session is focused entirely on you—your questions, your challenges, and your goals—so you receive real, practical guidance tailored to your needs.

During our time together, I’ll walk you through my full foundational newborn workflow, starting with **lighting choices and how to select studio lighting for your space**, along with a breakdown of the different lighting styles and how they impact your images. We will also go over **camera settings based on your specific environment**, including common starting points you can rely on during sessions.

Personal guidance to help you feel confident, calm, and in control during newborn sessions.

When I first reached out to Elysia, all I wanted was to shadow an IPS session. I had no idea how much of a reality check that would be. I quickly realized I was missing so much when it came to actually running a business. At the time, I was only taking donations, had no real structure, and was just figuring things out as I went. Since working with her, I’ve had several paid sessions, sold products, and finally feel like I’m running a real, sustainable business.

Elysia has challenged me in the best way possible while also meeting me where I am. She’s helped me refine my workflow, improve my client experience, and see the true value in what I offer. But beyond that, she’s helped me become a fully legal business. I’ve learned how to file quarterly taxes, create spreadsheets that actually help me track my numbers, build an entire website from scratch, run a CRM, market my work, create invoices, and properly prepare for sessions. The amount of knowledge and confidence I’ve gained is something I never expected.

On top of that, she’s completely transformed the way I approach posing. From posing safety to refining the way I direct clients, she’s helped me create images that feel more natural, flattering, and intentional. I’ve gained so much confidence in guiding my clients, which has made my sessions smoother and my work even stronger.

One of the most incredible parts of this mentorship has been the hands-on experience she’s given me. She’s allowed me to assist her during sessions, giving me real-world experience that has made all the difference. And through it all, she’s been there—pushing me, supporting me, and genuinely wanting to see me succeed.

I truly hope other people see the value and worth that she brings because I had no idea what I was in for—but what I’ve gained from her is beyond invaluable. I will always be grateful for her guidance, generosity, and belief in me.

If you’re looking for a mentor who will teach you not just how to take better photos but how to actually run a business, Elysia is the one. I can’t recommend her enough!
